Laconic and sun-spackled jazz that follows a chiaroscuric vein from beam to slatted beam, this album draws you in with light and twinkly textures until, in Sumimasen, the coiling beast at its heart unwinds and engulfs you. The final two tracks return to the blissed-out Sunday haze of before, to see us out on a wistful note. A focused and understated little treasure in all. Tom Colquhoun
